Tonbara's Legacy
Tonbara Joshua Komonibo
(August 9, 1987 - December 10, 2002)

A Celebration Of Life
We celebrate Tonbara's life and graduation on these pages. I call it Tonbara's graduation because that is what it is. He had graduated from this earth and had entered into the ultimate in living. I once heard a preacher say that it is a misnomer to say that dying means going to the land of the dead. Rather, dying should rightly be seen as leading to the land of the living because those who have died will live forever. This earth is the land of the dying because we shall all die one day.

Obituary
On a quiet Tuesday, December 10, 2002 morning, Tonbara Joshua Komonibo entered into eternity to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Tonbara was born on August 9, 1987 to Ebi and Mina Komonibo in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He was the couple’s first son. In 1991, Joshua surrendered the leadership of his life to Jesus Christ and got baptized in 1996 in Kensington Temple(Sudbury Hill Community Church) London, U.K. Joshua has served the Lord ever since.

As a child, Tonbara was known as a "mischievous-looking" yet loving and cheerful boy who radiated tremendous energy. Tonbara lived life to the fullest. His siblings always thought the world of him. His parents were proud to have him as their first son. His friends, many whose lives he made such an impact, loved and respected him.

Tonbara loved to play soccer. He will always be remembered for his "bullet-speed" dash with the ball in his forward position. Tonbara also loved playing video games, and would persistently seek to conquer every challenge and master every level he encountered - he even got his mother playing video games. Tonbara was a young man who dedicated himself to everything in life that was worth his attention.

Most importantly, Joshua was faithful to his Lord, and he was never ashamed to tell others about Jesus. He put his gifts and talents to use as a member of the Sight & Sound Drama Ministry at Braeswood Assembly of God, where he served faithfully. The night before Joshua entered into eternity, he was busy at practice preparing for the Christmas musical for his Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory and life: His parents, Ebigba and Mina Komonibo; His siblings, Diseye, Timi, Gesiye, and Ineye; His cousins, Kenneth, Karen, Kevin, Kingsley, Kate, Kelly, and Josephine; A host of others in Bonny and Odi; and many friends.

Tonbara, you have left us only for a little while. This is only adieu. We will soon meet again, never to part when Jesus returns to take us home. Maranatha!

Musical performance by Diseye, Timi and "Cuz" Joe:
This song was choreographed during Tonbara's graduation/send-off. It was very beautiful to watch these girls tearfully present this parting gift to their beloved brother. The song echoes the general feeling in the family about our beloved son and brother, TeeJay. We share it here with all our friends. God Bless you.

"The Other Side" by The Katinas

There’s never been a day when your memory’s not on my mind
Especially when I see your picture – sometimes I cry
Cause you are the water that cleanses my soul
And you are the beauty that makes me whole

Chorus

I’ll see you on the other side someday
I really just can’t imagine any other way
Wait for me, cause I’ll see you again in time
I know I’ll see the day when I can hold you
On the other side

I look above the clouds and I wonder what you’re doing there
When I close my eyes I can feel you everywhere
I remember you laughing and it feels so warm
Each day that is passing I’m closer to home

Bridge

On the other side there’s no crying
On the other side we’ll be smiling
On the other side we’ll be together again
And I’m living for that day

Wait for me, cause I’ll see you again in time
I know I’ll see the day
When I can hold you
I’m looking forward to the day
When I can touch you once more
I’m living for the day
When I’ll be with you
